When you look into a mirror, there you see my heart;
For you are the very substance of that hidden part.
Your eager eyes, like mine, gaze out searching far and wide
For sight of their sole darling: too often they have cried.
Warmest endearments haunt your lips, just the same as mine
Which hunger, too, for our choice food; kisses nectarine.
The precious voice, which my ears strain anxiously to hear,
Your own are keen to garner in from the sounding air.
A lonely, questing spirit’s hopes beacon from your face
As mine my own sad visage too, frequently betrays.
To be united once again in love’s fond concerns
